A little while ago we reported on the ‘Lego Ideas’ set which features a recreation of the classic game Donkey Kong starring the titular villain alongside Pauline.
Well, a set – thanks to the user “From If You Build It” – has now surpassed 10,000 backers and qualified for an official review by Lego itself. The review process will begin in September, and Lego has said it could take several months.
Regardless, while we certainly have minor issues with some of the finer details in this piece, it’s great that we could actually see a Lego set based on the original DK go into full production. If that were to happen, Lego would no doubt refine the design to more closely resemble Nintendo’s original vision. He might even include an existing official Donkey Kong figure Tree house extension set.
We wouldn’t be surprised if something like this happens in the future. Nintendo is starting to lean heavily on the Donkey Kong IP, adding the character to Movie Super Mario Brosan expansion of the Super Nintendo World theme park with a Donkey Kong-themed ride, and even a revival of Donkey Kong Country Returns with an HD version for the Switch.
We have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot more Donkey Kong in the future, so this Lego Ideas set may have reached the approval stage at just the right time…
