A new update is out for Outer Wilds on Switch and it’s really crazy.
As detailed at Mobius website (Thank you, Nintendo Everything), patch 4 introduces a number of visual, gameplay, and UI improvements while also removing a bunch of bugs in the process.
It was also reiterated that this will likely be the last update for Outer Wilds, as the developers have moved on to new projects. Minor patches may be applied in the future, but this is not guaranteed.

Art and visual
- Improved visual display of retreating beams during gameplay
- Fixed inconsistent visuals of the Nomai child on Giant’s Deep
- Children’s toy Nomai is now officially sponsored.
- Improved resolution of a certain Easter egg
- Fixed the distorted island effect on Giant’s Deep
- Timber Hearth atmosphere visuals now respond correctly during a specific solar event
- Fixed missing collision and incorrect scaling of floating Nomai lights
- Small slide projectors now cast shadows
- Giant’s Deep ocean no longer disappears when viewed through the projection pool
- It’s me. No time to talk, SERN found me. The drop in the flame flower studio is active. Yes, of course I turned it off! El ps–hey, they hung up on me!
- Taking scout photos no longer causes textures to pop and appear in Echoes of the Eye
- Trees no longer turn white when approaching Brittle Hollow
- Reduced visibility of hidden location in Echoes of the Eye
- Improved transition in and out of projection sets
- Improved transition to a specific void without stars
- Improved visuals during the ending sequence
- Various lighting adjustments and repairs
- Improved texture resolution of many materials

- Various fixes for LODs to better match their high-res versions and reduce visible LOD pop
- Fixed various issues where you could see through the world

Playing
- Sudden death from above should occur less frequently while exploring the Hanging City.
- A ship no longer falls through the ground if left on a planet
- Fixed some cases where the player could get stuck in slow motion
- Flying outside the solar system long enough to trigger the associated achievement now correctly triggers the new Slate dialog option
- Equipping a beacon in a certain camp no longer knocks the player back at high speed
- The secret passage on the Ember Twin is now harder to spot from a distance
- Fixed an issue where the music of many Travelers could sometimes not be heard
technical
- Reduced performance degradation over time
- Improved loading speeds when currently traveling long distances
- Various memory optimizations to improve performance and stability
Text and localization
- Fixed some Japanese characters using the wrong glyph placed in the credits, causing certain characters to be incorrect
- Fixed a certain easter egg so that the code can be scanned by external tools
- Updated the credits
user interface
- The ship’s HUD marker is no longer visible on scout photos
- Various minor UI adjustments and fixes in normal and large UI modes
