The Game Awards is just around the corner and a number of Nintendo titles across multiple categories are in the running to win awards. Perhaps the highlight of the lot is Metroid Dread, which is up for Game of the Year.

The show isn’t just about awards, though. It’s also about the announcements and once again, host and organiser Geoff Keighley is drumming up excitement on social media about what’s to come. In his latest post on Twitter, he teases a “world premiere” the team has been working on with a developer for 2.5 years.

Just saw the final cut of a #thegameawards world premiere we h ave been working on with a developer for 2.5 years.

Truly honored we are entrusted to share this work with the world.

As can be seen below, a number of Zelda fans have noted how the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was announced around 2.5 years ago. While some have their doubts it would be this game, as it’s titled “world premiere” – it’s also been noted how The Game Awards has done world premieres for games that have already been shown before.

And keep in mind, there’s still no official title for this new Zelda game. Earlier this year, Nintendo even said it was holding back on the name – to avoid revealing too much, and told fans to “stay tuned”.

I’m just gonna say it, BotW 2 was announced almost exactly 2.5 years ago.— Tabulatelk15 (@Tabulatelk15) November 28, 2021

Aonuma could’ve technically been talking about E3, but still, the timeline with this tweet lines up incredibly well.— Tabulatelk15 (@Tabulatelk15) November 28, 2021

I hate the fact that BOTW2 fits this but it’s probably not it… right? https://t.co/4VyqSEo9fO— BY2K @ Not Quite Endwalker Month (@TheBY2K) November 28, 2021

BotW 2 announced 2.5 years ago. Would count as a world premiere since they weren’t even really proper reveals https://t.co/57d9kVRqqM— Existence – The Holiday Cheer Month (@howtoexist2) November 28, 2021

I really do want to believe he is referring to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2.

1) We know the game is pretty far along now, and Nintendo has been holding back information on the game including the subtitle.

2) Zelda has a Game Awards history.https://t.co/xOmZDKrhE7

2021 also marks The Legend of Zelda series’ 35th anniversary. So far, Nintendo has shared a teaser trailer of the new game at this year’s E3 (above), so there’s still time to add to the celebrations at The Game Awards. There have also been rumours about Zelda appearing at this year’s show for some time now, and we’re still waiting to see the return of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess based on a rumour that surfaced earlier this year.

This year’s Game Awards show will air on December 9th – streaming live from the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles. There’ll be awards, “world premieres”, musical performances and much more. Voting is also still open, and you can see all of the games up for nomination in our previous post. What do you think this big reveal might be? Even if this isn’t Zelda-related, do you think we’ll see the Breath of the Wild sequel at this year’s show? Leave a comment down below.
