‘The Karate Kid: Street Rumble’ hits the market in September

GameMill Entertainment has announced The Karate Kid: Street Rumble, a 16-bit pixel art beat-em-up game starring several characters from the classic film franchise. Runs for Nintendo Switch included September 20, 2024.

Now, we know what you’re thinking… GameMill, ugh, right? The publisher has gained a bad reputation over the years, releasing frankly awful games like The Walking Dead: Destinies and Skull Island: Rise of Kong. But you know what..? This one doesn’t look bad. It actually looks pretty decent.

We’ll reserve judgment until we actually play the thing, but watching the trailer alone, it looks fast, frenetic, and kind of beautiful. It reminds us of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge; it’s hardly the most original idea for a game, of course, but as long as it’s fun, that’s all that matters.

Now let’s check out the key features:

– Relive the adventures of The Karate Kid as you face the challenges posed by Cobra Kai and other enemies. The game follows the narrative of the original trilogy, allowing you to experience the highs and lows of The Karate Kid’s journey.

– Master the art of karate with an intuitive and responsive combat system. Perform powerful combos, perform signature moves like the crane kick, and fend off relentless attacks from the enemy dojo. Each level presents new challenges and enemies inspired by memorable characters from the movies.

– Face off against classic villains like Johnny Lawrence, John Kreese, Terry Silver and other fearsome opponents through 12 intense levels. Each boss battle is a test of skill and strategy, challenging players to remember the lessons of Mr. Miyagi.

– Fight your way through 12 levels inspired by The Karate Kid original trilogy such as Topanga Beach, West Valley High, Cobra Kai Dojo, All Valley Tournament and more!

– Immerse yourself in a visually stunning world of pixel art that pays homage to the golden era of gaming. Every punch, kick and iconic scene is beautifully rendered in classic 16-bit glory, providing a truly nostalgic experience.

– Face hordes of enemies in your quest for martial arts dominance.

– Immerse yourself in the 80s with a chiptune soundtrack that evokes the spirit of that era. Classic melodies will accompany you on your journey, enhancing the nostalgic atmosphere.

– Fight with friends in local co-op for up to 4 players.
