On May 29, 2024, Apogee Entertainment was launched Quest Master through Early Access on Steam, giving Nintendo fans a way to bring their ‘Zelda Maker’ fantasies to life. While the final product has yet to be released on Switch, gamers have eagerly embraced the game’s creative potential.
Quest Master allows users to design their own themed dungeons, complete with stunning pixel art and gameplay reminiscent of classic Zelda titles. Although it was officially confirmed for Switch during Guerilla Collective’s launch event last year, the game remains in development under the direction of Julian Creutz, who is diligently refining it through Early Access. In an impressive feat of creativity, a fan managed to recreate the entire overworld from the original Legend of Zelda on the NES inside the Quest Master. This achievement highlights the game’s potential for endless creativity.
The excitement doesn’t stop there. Quest Master’s official account has confirmed recreations of various dungeons from other Zelda games, including Minish Cap, A Link to the Past, the Oracle series, Link’s Awakening, and even Ocarina of Time. Amazingly, the 3D dungeons have been translated into the 2D game format with impressive accuracy. Currently Quest Master limits players to creating dungeons instead of full overworlds. However, future updates may expand these capabilities, allowing for even more ambitious projects. By the time Quest Master launches on Switch, fans will be able to recreate entire Zelda games – an exciting prospect for any Zelda enthusiast.
