The New Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Animation Short is so very, very boring

Nintendo has released a short animation based on The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, highlighting the game's core 'echo' mechanic where you summon copies of objects to reach areas that would otherwise be inaccessible.

It certainly does its job of showcasing gameplay, but for goodness sake, that's just the way it is boring. Zelda spots a chest at the top of a tree, so she uses Tri to create echoes of a nearby table and chest to get to it. He succeeds, opens the chest and grabs the red rupee.

That's it, folks. We were kind of hoping that something funny or unexpected might happen. Maybe Stamp Guy pops out of the chest, or maybe the chest swallows Zelda like the Mimic enemies from Dark Souls. Only… something.

Alas, while the animation is sweet and charming, the video is otherwise incredibly underwhelming. Fortunately, however, the game itself is much better. Released on September 26, 2024, Echoes of Wisdom continues the visual aesthetic of Link's Awakening on Switch, but boasts a much larger overworld, new mechanics, and the first instance of Zelda herself being the main protagonist in a main entry.

We gave the game a score of 9/10 and called it “the new standard for advanced top-down Zelda.”
