Canary Games, the studio behind 2023 cinematic platformer Lunark, revealed an adorable adventure inspired by Link’s Awakening earlier this year. At the time, the game was only confirmed for PC, but today the developer revealed that the game is indeed coming to Switch — and soon!
Castaway launches on Nintendo Switch and all other platforms August 16, 2024 and it will only set you back $7.99 / £6.99. In the game, you play as Martin, an adventurer who crashes on an island. His pet is soon kidnapped (napped-pet-napped?) and he has to go rescue it.
Castaway is a very small version of the Zelda formula; his Story Mode should only take you a few hours to beat, but clearing that will unlock Survivor Mode. Here you will climb a 50-story tower that will provide you with plenty of challenges. Plus, it looks damn nice, with colorful GBA-esque visuals and a catchy soundtrack.
Canary Games wants Castaway to appeal to all ages, and there are different modes and difficulty options that will allow the player to customize the game to their needs. ‘Pacifist’ will remove enemies from the game, leaving only simple puzzles to solve; there is an ‘invincible’ setting that will give you the ability to fight without fear of death; if you want a challenge, then the ‘unfair’ mode might be the right choice for you.
There’s even a speed mode to see how long it takes you to defeat all three bosses and rescue your little pet. Pretty much everything you could want from a little adventure like this.
We’re big fans of Lunark, so when Canary Games announced Castaway back in April, we were praying for a Switch release. Fortunately, it is coming, and very very Soon.
