The producer of the Dragon Quest series has left Square Enix

In a blow to Square Enix and Dragon Quest fans, Ryota Aomi, the producer behind the Dragon Quest games, has announced that he has left Square Enix. Mr. Aomi said in a message to fans posted on his Twitter account

that he has started a ‘new adventure’ at another video game company and will be sharing more details about it soon. Mr. Aomi also thanked Dragon Quest series creator Yuji Horia, character designer Akira Toriyama and the late composer Koichi Sugiyama. Ryota Aomi has worked on the Dragon Quest series since 2013. “I, [Ryota] Aomi, I left Square Enix. I apologize to everyone for this sudden announcement. I’ve been at Square Enix for 13 years and worked on Dragon Quest for 16 years, including development at my last job. [Working on] Dragon Quest has been my dream since elementary school. Every day was truly a different story. I have now started a ‘new adventure’ in the following company. I would like to tell you all about where I am and what I am doing, so please wait a little longer.”
