In a new interview with Video gamePHL Collective, the company behind the recently released Patrick Star gamecommitted to releasing games on the original Nintendo Switch system. Patrick Star Game’s director of production Chris Rose said in an interview that he believes it will support the system until 2028, or maybe even longer, and that he urges smaller developers not to completely abandon the platform for the Switch 2, which is due to launch next year . This is because Nintendo’s console, which was released in March 2017, will continue to have a large install base and has a target audience for the company’s colorful games.
“I free advice to anyone who wants to make a children’s game is that young children, especially if they have older siblings, will get the latest generation of consoles. In about a year, two years, there will be 143 million hand things… That’s 143 million potential customers for you. Yeah, don’t ditch Switch or Xbox One so quickly.”
“So be sure to support those who are out there and still actively involved, because not everyone wants to go out and buy a brand new [console] for a younger child. But we know a lot of kids will be playing their switches for at least another four or five years, if not longer. That’s why you have to support these consoles.”
“I’d be amazed if we’re not still supporting the Switch coming in like 2028, for example, maybe even longer than that,” the director explained. “If someone told me in 2030, we need to get out of this and change, it wouldn’t shock me. Again, there are more than 140 million.”
“It’s a bit like PS2, isn’t it? PS2 support lasted a very long time. they’d just keep porting football games to PS2 because there were so many of them there, and they’d keep selling them. So it’s one of those things where if someone said to me in 2030, ‘by the way, this has to support the Switch’, I wouldn’t be surprised… it’s such a big machine and I wouldn’t be surprised if it ended up breaking 200 million unit until then.”
