In a recent interview with Japanese gaming magazine Weekly Famitsu, Super Mario Bros. Wonder director Shiro Mouri revealed a little more about the cast of characters. When it comes to the lovable Yoshi, they originally intended to include the egg-throwing mechanic that Yoshi had in previous adventures. However, after prototyping, they felt this was not a good design choice for the game, so they chose the invincibility option, which both Nabbit and Yoshi have, meaning they don’t take hits from enemies even though they can’t use game power-ups.
“As for Yoshi’s actions, I thought it would be better if he could throw eggs, so we tried to make a prototype and test it. However, it became difficult to control, and in order to allow beginners to have fun, we decided that the current way was best.”
