The Pokemon Company and Game Freak released an update a week or two ago bringing Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet to version 1.2.0. The update, which you can read about here , fixes several bugs and advertises the upcoming The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero downloadable content expansion on the game’s home screen. However, version 1.2.0 seems to have brought with it an unwelcome addition, which is a bug that can delete player save files. The problem seems to occur when connecting to the Pokemon GO app or downloading DLC, although as my city
points out, there isn’t just one cause of a save-corrupting error, which is clearly problematic. Losing a save file can be devastating, and it’s not helped by the fact that Pokemon Scarlet & Violet can’t be backed up to the cloud via Nintendo Switch Online, like the vast majority of Nintendo Switch games. It’s likely that The Pokemon Company and Game Freak are aware of the problem and are working on a fix, although they haven’t publicly acknowledged the existence of the bug. Fortunately, it doesn’t appear to be a widespread issue at the moment, but Kotaku has reached out to Nintendo regarding the deletion of save files and has yet to hear back as of this writing.
