Super Mario Bros. The Movie is one of the movies of the year. Not only for breaking the box office and breaking numerous collection records, it is also because it has conquered fans by perfectly translating the spirit of the video game franchise. Although the film hides a multitude of surprises and references to videogames, one of the aspects that has surprised us the most is the appearance of the Mario and Luigi’s family members in his Brooklyn apartment. And for this reason, in the following article we will review all the relatives of Mario and Luigi that appear in Super Mario Bros. The Movie.
Mario and Luigi’s niece
We can see Mario and Luigi’s niece in the food scene, although she has no script lines and we know little about her, not even whose daughter she is. She meets the typical stereotype of a teenager hooked on mobile phones.
Uncle Tony
This is the brother of the father of Mario and Luigi, whose dubbing actor is Rino Romano. Although his first official appearance is in Super Mario Bros. The Movie, we already knew about him in the series that combined animation and live-action The Super Mario Bros. The Show!. He is a somewhat rude character, with few nice words towards the plumbing project of his nephews, even making fun of it. Ultimately, he would have to eat his own words.
Aunt Marie
She is Uncle Arthur’s wife and, although she hardly appears in the film, with her few gestures she makes it clear that she does not trust the brothers’ business career at all. We can say little more about her, since it is also the first time we hear of her in the franchise.
Uncle Arthur
It is an unpublished character to date, thin in appearance and wearing a yellow shirt. Like the rest of the family, he is skeptical of the two brothers’ business, as he reveals with various derogatory comments towards his TV ad. His voice is provided by John DiMaggio.
Mario and Luigi’s grandfather
Although Mario and Luigi’s grandfather appears in the film, we do not know if it is on the mother’s or father’s side. He looks very old and doesn’t have any lines of dialogue. It can be intuited that he had a past as a boxer. In the eating scene he is fed by Mama Mario.
Mario and Luigi’s father
This character has more weight in the film. As with the rest of the family, she is demanding of Mario, going so far as to tell him that she will bring his brother Luigi down with him. This comment is what dynamite Mario and makes him leave the table to go to his room. He voices the mythical Charles Martinet, or what is the same, Mario’s original voice. Finally, he ends up recognizing the worth of his son by seeing how he, together with his brother, manages to defeat Bowser and save Brooklyn.
Mario and Luigi’s mother
He shows character, but he is the character who supports Mario and Luigi the most. He only appears at the beginning and at the end of the film, although he has more appearances in the saga, as in the aforementioned Super Mario Bros. Super Show! Jessica DiCicco gives her a voice.
