If you take a trip down memory lane to the very first Mario Party released in 1998 for the Nintendo 64, you may recall one particular minigame that caused various hand injuries amongst friends and family due to its furious control method of spinning the C-stick as fast as possible. Tug o’ War makes a return in the upcoming Mario Party Superstars, and Nintendo has made sure to issue a safety warning this time around in an attempt to protect themselves from liability. The in-game warning reads; “To avoid irritation to your skin and/or damage to the control stick, do not rotate it with the palm of your hand.”
Back in March of 2000, Nintendo had received around 90 complaints of hand cuts and blisters due to the Tug o’ War minigame. This resulted in the company paying over 80 million USD to send protective gloves in compensation to those that purchased a copy of Mario Party. It seems Nintendo has since learned their lesson, and are now clearly alerting players about how to properly avoid injury.
Mario Party Superstars is coming to Nintendo Switch on 29th October.
