Well folks, in what is probably the last Christmas period before Nintendo unveils its next big piece of hardware, the Switch games have done well as people want to fill those stockings on Wednesday morning.
In fact, let's look at the numbers here: 8 games in the top 10 are either exclusive to Switch or playable on Switch, and the same can be said for 26 titles from the complete top 40 charts. That's impressive and shows how popular Switch boxed games really are this time of year.
Of course, digital sales may paint a different picture, but at least it's a good result for Nintendo in terms of physical retail space. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was Nintendo's best-selling first-party title, followed by Super Mario Party Jamboree, Nintendo Switch Sports, Minecraft (third-party), Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. A lot of what we would probably call “evergreen” titles, then.
It will be interesting to see how things shake out in the new year as we approach the new hardware announcement, which is currently due before the end of March. Will the Switch games keep up the current momentum…? Only time will tell.
