The data arrived today from The game industry which revealed that Sony’s PlayStation 5 console is now the fifth fastest-selling console in Europe’s biggest gaming market, the United Kingdom. The Wii is still the fastest console to reach the four million mark, in just 102 weeks. The Nintendo Switch is in seventh place and needs 203 weeks to reach 4 million units sold. It should be noted that the PlayStation 5 is the most expensive console to reach the milestone. See the chart below.
“The razor-thin days of consoles being sold at almost impulse buy prices are over,” says GfK head of games Dorian Bloch. “Either from launch or due to large price reductions over time – the Wii, PS1, PS2 and Xbox 360 – all had low cumulative average sales prices by the time they hit 4 million units.”
