Ursaluna y Porygon2, two unexpected Pokémon won the European International Pokémon Championship (EUIC) using a team focused on Strange Space, despite not being considered among the biggest threats in the Scarlet and Purple metagame.
During the EUIC weekend, the most popular Pokémon in the VGC were Incineroar, Melenealeteo, Urshifu, and Amoonguss. Although Melenealeteo lost relevance on the second day, these Pokémon dominated the event. However, in the EUIC winning team, Ursaluna and Porygon2 stood out along with the usual ones.
Ursaluna is known for its slowness and is usually paired with Cresselia to use Weird Space. However, the EUIC winner, Nils Dunlop, chose Porygon2 as the setter of Espacio Rarowhich turned out to be a successful choice.
Porygon2, with its Shock ability and Flying-type like Tera, proved to be a viable option. Although Weird Space wasn’t always the key to victory, the combination of Ursaluna and Porygon2 provided flexibility in the team’s strategy.
In the finals, Ursaluna and Porygon2 were only used in one match, showing that The success of the team does not depend exclusively on Espacio Raro. This result suggests a change in the perception of dominant strategies in the competitive Pokémon metagame.
