At the San Diego Zoo’s Denny Sanford Wildlife Explorers Basecamp The San Diego Zoo is buzzing amid reports of mysterious, brightly colored creatures. And they look something like this:
From October 1st through November 28th, Nintendo of America and the San Diego Zoo are inviting explorers of all ages to join the search for these new guests: small, plant-based creatures from Pikmin series of games, available at Nintendo Switch system family. In this adventure and puzzle-solving series, Pikmin are found on patches of land, in blades of grass, and with unusual creatures that share the world around them — and the Pikmin themselves come in a variety of varieties, from fire-resistant Red Pikmin (like the one above) to Blue Pikmin that can swim. And just like the Pikmin series of games, kids will be encouraged to grow, gather and lead: develop their appreciation for the natural world around them, collect pictures and memories of Pikmin at the zoo, and guide their friends and family through exciting themed locations throughout Wildlife Explorers Basecamp.
Pikmin are loyal, curious creatures that can help guide your expedition around the Wildlife Explorers Basecamp. Here are some ways to make the most of your visit:
- Consider visiting in October. The San Diego Zoo is celebrating Kid-Free Month from October 1st through October 31st by offering children 11 and under free admission with a paid adult ticket.
- Guests visiting any weekend from October 1 to November 24 are encouraged to visit the Pikmin pop-up tent near Spineless Marvels to check in at a I Nintendo kiosk and receive 100 I Nintendo Platinum Points*, redeemable at my.nintendo.com for exclusive digital and physical rewards. Guests are also eligible to receive a Nintendo commemorative bag in the pop-up tent after completing a set task, such as photographing Pikmin at the zoo!
The San Diego Zoo’s Denny Sanford Wildlife Explorers Base Camp is designed to inspire children to learn about nature, play actively, meet new species and develop empathy for wildlife. While searching for Pikmin during this special event period, families will discover all that Basecamp has to offer Wildlife Explorers as they interact, climb, fight and jump in innovative nature playgrounds. Basecamp offers children and families the opportunity to connect with the natural world like never before and understand the importance of wildlife conservation through a series of unique experiences with animals.
