Right now you are reading the fourth article of an idea that has been baptized as Short footage in which, in a brief text, I will talk about topics related to Nintendo and the world of video games in general with the intention of opening a debate about them.
When I received Shovel Knight Showdown to analyze, I expected it to be a fighting video game similar to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, for putting the delivery of the most recent saga, and with a number of quite modest fighters. When it was finished installing and finally I could start the game I decided to play the story mode to get to know the characters a little better, and what was my surprise when I found that there were only nine. As I mentioned, it was more or less what I expected, but at the end of the story mode of one of the initial characters I unlocked a new fighter. This made me very happy, but I still didn't give it much importance, but what really surprised me was to finish all the story modes of the characters with more than double what I had started.
This is not an exaggeration, since at the beginning of the game you have the nine previously mentioned, and at the end you will have at your disposal more than eighteen characters with which to fight. Apart from fighters you also unlock scenarios, but I will mention this in the analysis. As I was saying, the number of characters you unlock just by playing is quite remarkable, and although it does not have the bulky numbers of characters in the best-selling fighting game in history, it is appreciated to see an example of how the progression has to be done in this type of games, especially if we consider that we are in the era of DLCs and micropayments
As I just mentioned, being able to unlock all the characters without paying more is magnificent, but the problem is in the story mode itself. Shovel Knight Showdown
This begins with a sequence that shows the character's past, then we will fight nine identical battles between all the story modes (just changing the characters) and we will have to face the same final boss every time and finally see another sequence about the lore of the fighter if we want to do with everyone.
In conclusion, although this way of making the player unlock the entire contents of the title without paying extra is better than the one that puts a payment wall, I think it should be refined a little more. What do you think about it? Leave us your opinions in the comments!
