If you’ve played Minecraft on Switch or another platform, you’re probably already more than familiar with the graphics in the game. As part of the 15th anniversary celebration as well as the recent ‘Fraudulent trials‘ update, Mojang added 20 new images to the game.
Five of them were created by Mojang artist Sarah Boeving and 15 created by Kristoffer Zetterstrand – the artist who did most of the game’s original artwork. Yes, the developer actually invited the original artist to help create these new images, and you can see the entire Minecraft image process in the video above. Here are some additional insights from Zetterstrand:
“One thing I’ve heard from fans is that the paintings, in their strangeness, hint at something mysterious—a bigger world, something beyond,” says Kristoffer Zetterstrand, painter extraordinaire. “It’s quite interesting, because the basic idea in games is that you don’t want to break the immersion. interestingly, [the paintings] they don’t seem to, at least not in a negative way. I think it’s a testament to the creative possibilities and atmosphere in Minecraft as a game. It’s all in the imagination, so images that leave a lot to the imagination seem to fit in perfectly.”
