Video: Technical Analysis of Kingdom Come Deliverance on Switch by Digital Foundry

The Switch is home to a slew of ambitious ports, and today another one joins the ranks. Kingdom Come Deliverance wasn’t in the best shape when it launched on Xbox One and PS4 in 2018, but there was still a lot to like about it. The question is, would the Switch suffer the same fate?

To answer that (at least from a technical standpoint), the experts at Digital Foundry have offered their analysis of how the RPG works on the Switch. The result: uhhhhnot bad.

Basically, this is a port that should be accepted as it is. Digital Foundry’s Thomas Morgan praises Sabre’s ambition in bringing the game to Switch and notes that while there have been clear visual cuts, the fact that it’s running on Nintendo’s hybrid at all is impressive enough.

Unfortunately, there are a few expected problems. The game sets a 30 frames per second target that is locked in open, empty areas (oh!), but regularly drops to mid 20s and below in villages and scenes in the motorbike (ahh!). This isn’t helped by the limited pulling distance, which means there’s plenty of intrusion on the open road.

In terms of resolution, the game hits the mark 540-720 pthough there are plenty of enhancements to smooth things out little. A visual comparison to the Xbox One version in Digital Foundry’s analysis above shows all you need to know in that regard, and we get a taste of that signature Switch blur again.

However, as we said, the technical analysis praises the ambition shown here, noting the reduced port loading time (if it still exists) and the implementation of SSR and water simulation.

All in all, then, it seems to be a mixed bag. Our Nintendo Life review will be on the way soon, but until then be sure to check out Digital Foundry’s full technical analysis at the top of this article.
