Gaming is pretty good these days, but there are a few things we miss from the old days all went online. Game stores are big — nothing beats wandering into your local store and seeing rows upon rows of genuine video games, consoles, and accessories, old and new. You know, opposite a wall of Funko Pops, a chair with flashing lights and a cabinet of used Samsung Galaxies.
Gaming magazines are another thing we lack. Fortunately, there are still some reliable publications out there, and there’s something intimate and special about holding a printout in your hands and browsing the physical pages for game news and reviews. It’s a feeling we do our best to replicate on the site, which leads us to our latest regular feature. We present Nintendo Life Mailbox.
Letters from readers?! Great, but what about the comments section? Well, it’s not quite the same, is it? Don’t worry, the comments and forums aren’t going anywhere — we’re just eager to bring back some of the old spirit of the monthly Letters page!
To be clear, these emails will continue to be electronic, we’ll be featuring just a few of them via our new and monthly letterbox article that gives readers a chance to get in touch in a slightly different, retro way. Want to hear opinions on a specific game or series or console? Want to know our opinion on a certain gaming topic? A question about the site, perhaps? A desperate need to hear Jim’s thoughts on audio Guardians of the Galaxy 3 compared to the previous two entries and the wider MCU audioscape? Now is your chance!
If you recall, you may also remember that the magazines often highlighted the letter ‘Star’, and we will do the same. We recently launched our Supporter scheme for NL readers who enjoy the site and would like the option to experience it ad-free (you may have seen a little pulsating ‘∞‘ badge next to the user’s name, or you even signed up yourself — thank you!), and every month the letter Star of our choice will receive a free one-month subscription to our Supporter program.
See the article below for a full overview of our Supporter Scheme. To reiterate, we have no plans to paywall content in any way. Every article on the site will remain available to all readers — this is just an alternative way to support what we’re doing for anyone who prefers an ad-free reading experience.
