What are you playing this weekend? (April 13)

Ollie Reynolds, staff writer

I’m still playing my wonderful Metroidvanias, and I actually picked up Blasphemous 2 last weekend, so I’m working on that right now. By the way, I have a few things to do this weekend (building a new bed for starters), so I’m not really sure how much gaming I’ll get done. We’ll see!

I brother came to stay for the weekend and, as has become tradition, I already connected the Wii U to Nintendo Land – ‘Mario Chase’ is one of Nintendo’s best party games and I won’t hear anything against it. There will probably also be some about Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Nintendo Switch Sports because come on, we’re not animals.

Oh, if I get the chance, I’ll definitely spend some more time on the Pokémon Trading Card Game on NSO. Out of nowhere I fell into the Pokémon card hole again so I figured why not learn the rules before I get out? I’ll tell you something, that game is a gem.

I have a few good games on my eShop, including Pepper Grinder, so I’ll hopefully be able to tackle them this weekend. Close quarters combat arrived yesterday so I hope to be able to try out this John Wick simulator as I continue my ambition to conquer the world in Unicorn Overlord. However, some unexpected commission duties will have me spending most of the spare time I can get playing, recording and editing gameplay videos for run ‘n’ gun games for reasons you’ll discover later. Dream jobs do exist, gang!

The games of the week are Earth Defense Force 2, Earth Defense Forces 3, National Defense Forces 4.1 for Nintendo Switch and Earth Defense Forces: Iron Rain on steam with my discord friends. Yes, I have a bug issue, but nothing an orbital satellite laser rain can’t fix.

Somehow I beat Dark Souls — that’s two less Soulsborne games, including DLC. I liked it. It’s obtuse and obscure in some frustrating ways, and some of the bosses are liiiittle stupid (looking at you, Bed of Chaos — good God), but what a world. When it clicked, that really clicked, and I will definitely continue my Souls adventures in the near future.

But I’ve got jobs and a move coming up soon, so I’ll just stick to Stardew Valley for now and maybe join Ollie in playing Blasphemous 2. I want to grab Botany Manor, Pepper Grinder, and Snufkin, but now’s not the time. Life, huh?

That’s what we have planned for the weekend, what about you? Take the following poll with the game you’ll be running over the next few days, then slide into the comments to tell us what other titles are on the cards.
