What are you playing this weekend? (February 11)

A talking point, features, February, Nintendo Switch, playing, weekend, What Are You Playing

After a Direct Showcase that will bankrupt me over the coming months, I am a lots of that I will hope to play this weekend.

The amount I will be able to play is another matter entirely. I’m going to stay with some friends for the next few days, so instead of tucking into The Minish Cap anymore, I’m letting some Layton, or give in and buy Metroid Prime Remastered, I think it will mostly be a return to board games. Who am I to complain? I love Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Nintendo Switch Sports is quickly becoming one of my favorite ‘friends run’ titles so it’s going to be a good time anyway.

If I find the time, I might get into Fire Emblem Engage some more or finally start Persona 4 Golden. Not quite the party vibes I’m looking for, but I can’t go on much longer with these others just staring at me from my Switch home page…

This weekend is all about that lovely invisible Metroid Prime Remastered for me, I can’t see myself doing anything else but diving in to relive the experience. I’ve already played the first hour and, after playing the original relatively recently, I’m very impressed, it really feels great and looks fantastic, definitely one of the more impressive remakes I’ve laid eyes on of late.

Elsewhere, if I get a little time for anything else, I’ll continue to work my way through Bowser’s Fury with my kids. Honestly, I’m not 100% on board with this yet, it seems a bit disjointed, but they seem to like it, and that’s all that really counts. Have a nice weekend!

There’s really only one game I’m playing this weekend, and that’s Metroid Prime Remastered. Hahaha, I actually can’t believe I’m typing these words – it is finally here!

On the other hand, if I find the time, I’ll definitely check out the demos for Sea of Stars and Octopath Traveler II. I managed to play about two minutes of Sea of Stars earlier today and hoo boythe game looks nice!

This weekend I suggest we rename this feature to ‘What are you NOT playing this weekend?’ Because, well, I feel like it is all. Either way, I, like probably everyone else, will be diving into Metroid Prime Remastered. Yes I am never played the original (sorry!), although I watched my brother play some of it. This remaster means I can tick one of my biggest gaming sins off the list.

I also have demos of Octopath Traveler II and Sea of Stars to sink my teeth into and a whole collection of Game Boy and GBA games to mess around with. I’ve already played a bit of Tetris, but a short replay of Super Mario Land 2 might be on the horizon…

I’m waiting for a physical copy of Metroid Prime Remastered, so this weekend I’ll be diving into the Switch Online Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance library to pass the time. I’m slowly separating from everything a little bit. Actually, I’m almost done with Super Mario Land 2: 6 gold coins.

Other than this, I’m working my way through Mario Kart: Super Circuit – one of my favorite Mario Kart games, and also spending some quality time with Kuru Kuru Kururin – a game I really didn’t pay enough attention to back in the day. Outside of this classic offering, I’ll also be trying out Konami’s new baseball game Power Pros. It costs next to nothing in the Switch eShop right now. Have a nice weekend everyone!

I was thinking of finishing Fire Emblem Engage this weekend, but no, one Nintendo Direct later, not only do I need to put the ending aside to grab Hector Soren and Camilla in the Divine Paralogue part of the world map. If that’s not enough, demos of the (sublime!) Sea of Stars, Octopath Traveler II (with save data!) and Kirby Return to Dreamland Deluxe also pop out of nowhere. All this together with Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance classics for blissful replay. It was time to finish the Zelda Minish Cap though.

Game of the week is Metroid Prime Remastered. As I explained during my live stream of Retro’s Magum opus, the importance of this game cannot be understated. This isn’t a quick cash grab either, the ‘remastered’ part lives up to the moniker with Samus, Tallon IV and the Space Pirates looking the best we’ve ever seen! Next rest of the trilogy, pretty please? Scanning…
