What are you playing this weekend? (July 27)

It’s been a pretty quiet few days in the world of Nintendo, but as we all gear up for another weekend of gaming, let’s take a look at some of the highlights of the week.

First, a new Nintendo Lego set is coming! hooray! This one looks spectacular and is basically a replica of the Mario & Yoshi sprites from Super Mario World. It’s beautiful, but like all Legos, it comes at a high price. Speaking of Lego, Eiji Aonuma also commented on the upcoming Lego Deku Tree from The Legend of Zelda.

Elsewhere, new Splatoon 3 amiibo are on the way, so that’s pretty cool if you’re still into the little plastic figurines, while Genius Sonority released The New Denpa Men for free on the Switch eShop (albeit with some vague translation issues). ).

Finally, we asked the age-old question: Are you ready to switch from Switch yet?

While you’re thinking, check out what we’ll be playing over the next few days…

An announcement tease earlier this week from the Blasphemous devs pushed me to the eShop where I saw that the sequel, which I’ve been meaning to play for years, was currently 50% off. There are many other things on my list, but this might jump to the top.

The only thing power preventing that is my current lack of home internet and the need to reserve mobile data for work — in which case I’ll be doing what I did every weekend morning during July: a one-shot through SEGA AGES Out Run followed by a Virtua Racing chaser.

It never gets old

I played a lot Castlevania recently; the original NES games, primarily, but I also dabbled a bit in Circle of the Moon and Aria of Sorrow. I love those first few games though, even Simon’s Quest; the gameplay is simple but consistently engaging, and the music is simply sublime.

Otherwise, again, I’m not playing too much at the moment. I think this is a quiet time for all of us, and I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait for new hardware news.

I will play this weekend [REDACTED] and [REDACTED], and have a grand old time with at least one of them. But they are for review, so I can’t say anything more.

I’ve also been dipping my toes into a Steam game called Planet Crafter, which looks a lot like Subnautica-meets-Astroneer. It’s very… um… I don’t know? It’s all about gathering resources and building things from them and then gathering more, but that’s ALL I do. There is a terraforming aspect, so I think it will be more fun as I form more terraces. We’ll see!

I partner just jumped back in Ring of fire, after one of our friends (who knows EVERYTHING about the game) paid us a visit and convinced him to keep trying, showed him new areas he could go to, and actually helped him get out of the situation he was in. So I’ve been watching a lot of it too. He had just unlocked the human skin clothing. It’s really nasty!

Good things in the eShop this week: The Portuguese have evolved exophobia finally came out, following the entire development cycle of this first-person metroidvania with a heavy share of 8-bit aesthetics was quite difficult. And only in the country, Spanish developed Super Woden GP II was also released, finally bringing a sequel to this hardcore isometric racing game on Nintendo hardware. Skipping SNK vs. Capcom SVC mayhem because I prefer to grab the physical edition right now. On the non-Nintendo side of things, it all boils down to finishing 2015 Mad Max on the computer.

Game of the week unsurprisingly continues Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown – Deluxe Edition. I am currently looking for all stealth ace pilots to get liveries for their planes but I have to stop for a bit as I have to work on my summer DJ set which I hope to release in the next few weeks. The show must go on!

Switch takes a backseat this weekend as I plan to go all-in on 3DS. I’ve been switching off from A Link Between Worlds for a while now, getting another Sage ready and then turning to something else for a bit. But it’s time to buckle down and see things through (again).

If I can polish it, I picked up Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia a few months ago and didn’t put nearly enough time into it. Maybe I’ll finally get around to training a team I can be proud of, or maybe I’ll spend too much time messing around with those dungeon exploration sequences and forget to do any tactical planning. Surely it will be the latter, right?

That’s what we have planned for the weekend, what about you? You can let us know which game you’ll be running in the following poll, then share what else you have on your cards in the comments.
