What are you playing this weekend? (May 4)

I finally fulfilled a promise I’d been making to myself for weeks and started a new Hollow Knight save file. Let it be said: I think I finally “got it”. I put 20 hours into my last save and everything was fine good, but not quite the ‘omg this is the best thing ever’ level of good that I’ve seen some suggest. Now, taking my time, I see the tragedy of Hallownest. I want talk to every creature, i want explore every corner, i want those bosses to give me a fucking break. In short, I love it. More for me this weekend please!

I’ll still be playing the 3DS this weekend. I’m working my way through Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions, but I’ve also recently dived into a few Virtual Console games, including Donkey Kong Country, Pilotwings, and Pokémon Crystal.

On PS5, I’m playing again right now Ratchet and Clank: A Rift Apart. I really like it and it looks absolutely stunning on my new TV.

The Switch will soon be loved, I promise.

I’m still screwing around National Defense Forces 4.1 for Nintendo Switch. It’s a real shame that this one along with 2 and 3 never made it outside of Japan as they are available with English support on other platforms. At least World Brothers 2 is right around the corner, so it is EDF 6… one for Switch 2 maybe? Outside of the bug busting realm, I still have Tales of Kenzera: ZAU, Another Crab Treasure, Arkada Arhiv Rastan (!!!), further warmongering in Unicorn Overlord and some Zen meditation with the brand new Endless Ocean: Luminous.

I game of the week is Megaton Musashi W: Wired! Not only is this an absolute blast in terms of content, but the game recognized my old 2021 Japanese import save and transferred the data! Such a shame they didn’t release a physical version of this… wait, there’s a Mazinger Z unlock mission!? See you on the battlefield!

I’ve been having a blast with Pikmin 4 for the past few weeks. After a very slow, talky start, it now feels good. I’m 100% through the first two areas, and only the Waterwraith caves in the third area need to be revisited before I’m completely done — then we’re off to the next zone to hopefully find Olimar.

I also enjoyed Chants of Sennaar. All the detective work and linguistic deduction is amazing, although the backtracking and hidden content parts drag things out a bit. I’ll definitely get back to it, but the instant gratification of Pikmin is whistling at me right now.

This week, for reasons beyond my understanding, I’m returning to Stardew Valley. Probably partly due to the 1.6 update and partly due to the mod Fallout: New Vegas put me in a modding mood, so I’m playing a tweaked version of SDV where I cheated out parts that I can’t be bothered with after 200+ hours. This of course means I’m playing on PC, but I’m also thinking about going back to my perfect farm from Year 5 on Switch – I haven’t explored Ginger Island much, know next to nothing about Mr Qi, and 1.6 isn’t even out on Switch yet, so that there is still a lot to explore. However, I will not bother with the search for “Perfection”. Life is too damn short.

And Balatro. Always Balatro.

That’s what we have planned for the weekend, what about you? Take the following poll with the game you’ll be running over the next few days, then slide into the comments to tell us what other titles are on the cards.
