What are you playing this weekend? (November 23)

I never expected to be so engrossed in a remake of a late 80's RPG, but gosh, Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake might take a spot on my GOTY shortlist for 2024. It's beautiful. So yeah, I'll be playing it pretty heavily this weekend.

I will also try to make a little more progress on my new one Baldur's Gate III overplaying. I just got my hands on the beautiful 30th Anniversary PlayStation Portal and holy guacamole, if that's not the most perfect way to play a game like BG3. Having said that, I'm also still in the honeymoon phase where I'm testing as many games as possible saying “Look, this one works perfectly too!” to my completely uninterested wife.

Like Ollie, Dragon Quest is calling my name and I think I've been putting it off for too long. That means I'll probably have to give up on Mario & Luigi: Brotherhood a bit, and I'm fine with that — I've hit the 15-hour mark, and while I'm still enjoying it, I don't think I'm '20 more hours of this' enjoying it. We'll see.

I downloaded Neva and ready to go, which I can't wait to sob over, and I've also been trying it out Daxter on the PSP lately. Rogue one to throw in at the end, but what can I say? Good game.

There are half a dozen GOTY contenders this week that I should really check out. However, Tetris DS and Yakuza Kiwami also got in my way.

I picked up the first one ahead of the DS's 20th birthday and after playing it for a few hours now, it seems criminal that it didn't have 'Nintendo' in the title. I'm sure it sold well (what with it being Tetris and all), but 'Tetris DS' really understates how much Nintendo has in its DNA.

And Yakuza Kiwami is my introduction to a series that I've been interested in for a long time but haven't been able to play. It's slow, sure, but I expected that Shenmue-stylish pacing with some arcade action extras, and it didn't disappoint. I'm only on chapter 4, but so far I'm enjoying it.

I will finish Unpacking this weekend. I've wanted it for a while, but I've been busy with other games. I'm on the last house, and it's so big it's scary to jump back in, but it'll be finished this weekend!

I might also go back to Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom if I have time, but my main focus is Unboxing.

Nintendo added Donkey Kong Land to Switch Online this week, so I think I'll be revisiting it in the next few days. I owned some of the DK Land games before I even played the Donkey Kong Country series on the SNES, so I don't really mind his pocket adventures.

Aside from this, I might as well start Marvel Vs. Capcom Fighting Collection and check out the recent GTA Trilogy update.

Final boss fights in BAKER! I had no idea there was a world 6 in Abathor! Chapter 6 in Gundam Breaker 4 seems to be the highlight of the story mode, it really feels like a Gunpla anime. Finally started playing Europe, amazing experience so far. He also tried his hand at Carpathian Night starring Bela Lugosi, a surprisingly solid platformer and fight. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 it just keeps scratching an itch I didn't even know I had.

I game of the week is another cheat pick: Retro Games' Spectrum! That's 48 games right now and thousands more that I can now enjoy with a “tape loading error” problem free! I picked up a second unit to give my dad for Christmas, can't wait to see the look on his face!

That's what we have planned for the weekend, what about you? Let us know in the next poll which games you plan to launch in the next few days.
