What are you playing this weekend? (September 21)

It’s going to be a battle for my time between two 3D platformers this weekend, and only one of them is Nintendo (please don’t hurt me). I was a very lucky boy last week and I got Astro Bot for my birthday. I refuse to leave any world until I clear all the collectibles so, as you can imagine, I spend my time with that — and that’s fine! Damn, I love this game.

But playing the latest Team Asobi also brought me back to Super Mario Odyssey. I was just hoping to play for a short while and pick up some remaining months, but now I’m desperate for it to 100%. Have I lost the plot? I’ll never play the game again? Come back to WAYP next week to find out!

I recently packed away a copy of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, so while I’ve already been tinkering with it over the last few days, I’d really like to get stuck in properly this weekend. It’s great so far though; I love the combat and the research seems pretty compelling so far.

I’m also working my way through The Plucky Squire (and it’s really good, in my opinion), while also playing a bit of Zelda: Link’s Awakening on Switch before Echoes of Wisdom drops. So, quite a bit to chew on this weekend! Have a great time, folks.

This weekend I’ll be focusing on Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn, Natsume’s awesome sequel to the original NES game. This one has so much variety of action that I can’t get enough of it, and that hard default difficulty level is really motivating. It’s a one-life game, just like the original, so I’ll see if I can clear it in one life. Wish me luck, hardcore gaming fraternity!

I’m juggling three pretty different games this weekend. First I’ll be a mighty pirate in Return to Monkey Island, where I’ll talk to sarcastic skeletons and try to use my horse armor on everything. Then there is Disaster Report 3 on my PSTV – because nothing says lazy Sunday mornings like surviving a catastrophic earthquake.

And with my 5 year old it will be Kirby all the way. We just finished Another Code: Two Memories, so hopefully no parents get killed this time… All in all, it’s going to be a relaxing/shaking weekend!

This weekend I’ll be revisiting Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, as I’ve had a few alternate campaigns on my backlog over the years, and I’ll start a new playthrough of Atari’s super charming Yars Rising. I’ll throw in some Peglin, a roguelike I’d describe as “Kill Spire, only with pachinko instead of cards.” It’s nice and super cold.

I’ve also been replaying the excellent Little Nightmares II and I’m well on my way to finishing it. I’m also planning to run Endless Ocean: Luminous for event diving this weekend, mostly because my cats love it when I play it on my giant wall projector. To be fair, I’m a fan of fish facts too.

Ironically, for the weekend of the debut ‘What Are You Playing’, I’m switchless as my partner is away and I’ve brought my PDA with me. But he’s sweetly activated my Xbox Game Pass, so I’ll be splitting my time between Spiritfarer, Dordogne, A Little To The Left, and whatever else I can get my hands on.

Little To The Left is so wonderfully addictive, although I did wonder how it would play on the Switch, due to the drag and drop gameplay – until I saw that the Nintendo Life review said the touchscreen was finicky.

Oh no, my vacation (as well as summer) is over! I don’t even know how to live in a city anymore… I buy, I can still play video games. I cleaned up a whole bunch of them during the offline period. This week hasn’t been carefree either thanks to e-Shop gems like hardcore platformers BZZZT and Byte The Bullet, along with the soon-to-be-released Cash Cow DX. Indie babyface hit The Plucky Squire (despite the Switch’s unfortunately typical optimization issues) is quite charming, but if you prefer an escape from reality with a heavy dose of madness, MDickie’s Hard Times III might be your poison.

The game of the week is one that I haven’t been able to finish on the road yet: BAKER. It’s the best”I can’t believe it’s not Goemon” game I have ever played. I don’t think I’m even close to finishing the game, but I’ll do my best to make progress this weekend…assuming my friends don’t write “SPACE MARINE II” on discord.

As much as I’m trying to keep up with the roughly five billion September issues I’m interested in, my backlog is really starting to pile up. Right now I’m torn on whether I want to spoil my emotional state with it Persona 3 Reload‘s Episode Aigis DLC or have a good-natured laugh with The Plucky Squire first. There’s very little chance I’ll find time to finish both before The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom consumes my world next week, so it’s a tough choice.

Ah, but I also need to finish Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy so I can move on to the Ace Attorney Investigations Collection soon! I’ve already eaten way too much with all these games, but this month is also kind of just the lull before the release storm that is October. Oh well, at least I’m a platinum Astro Bot.

That’s what we have planned for the weekend, what about you? You can let us know which game you’ll be running in the following poll, then share what else you have on your cards in the comments.
