There were a few moments in Nintendo’s pre-launch Switch marketing that left us speechless: the hybrid form factor, our first look at Breath of the Wild, the way a guy went to “walk his dog” but spent the entire time sitting on benches.
The revelation that Skyrim would be coming to the iddy biddy console was another. Until that moment, it was a sure sign that it wasn’t so only A kid-friendly Nintendo thing, but a big grown-up machine for those who wanted to play big six-year-old games for adults. It was also a sign of the Switch’s strength, Nintendo’s finger-wagging as if to say “You thought this was it only are you going to run side scrolling mario levels? Think again.”
With ‘Switch 2’ rumors popping up more frequently, our thoughts turn to potential games that Nintendo could use to strike again, especially since it seems that more big games on other consoles are unlikely to ever make it to the current Switch.
We tried to be mainly real here. Rumors suggest that the Switch’s successor could muster roughly the power of the PS4 / Xbox One — last generation, yes, but a big step up from what the Switch can currently achieve — so our picks mostly come from that period.
We also looked at Skyrim’s other adult message and made picks that would serve to add a pinch of salt to what could otherwise be a sickly sweet launch (regardless of how dark the eventual HD port of Twilight Princess may be).
Nevertheless, we’ve corrected both of these guidelines on several occasions for the correct choice of ‘flying pig’ — hey, we can dream!
