Okay, now that you’ve read that, here’s what everyone else is saying. We start with our friends at VGCthe fourth outing is described as a throwback to the GameCube favorite Pikmin 2 – evolving the gameplay in subtle but meaningful ways:
Andy Robinson: “Pikmin 4 is a game more akin to the fan-favorite GameCube sequel Pikmin 2, taking the foundations of the original and crafting a more carefully thought-out campaign, without the stressful time limit and most difficult content confined to underground dungeons, allowing players to manage their own experience.”
Our friends in Eurogamer were also equally optimistic about the fourth entry, describing Pikmin 4 as a significant step forward for the series, while incorporating the best elements of the series’ past:
Tom Phillips: “Pikmin 4 currently feels like a step forward for the series, and it’s also not afraid to look back at the best of the franchise’s past. The return of Pikmin 2’s caves is a hugely welcome move, and they remain a challenging highlight despite many other new features designed to make it easier players.”
Team on Dexerto noted how this latest entry seems like a lighter entry, but would also make existing fans happy:
Daniel Megarry: “Although I only got to experience a brief glimpse of what Pikmin 4 has to offer, I feel like this is Nintendo’s attempt to introduce the franchise to a new audience while keeping existing fans happy. It’s not reinventing the wheel. But, with a handful of great new features, a nice visual elements and a more relaxed approach to the game, I feel like it has already won me over.”
Nice people here at GoNintendo also got a chance to try out Pikmin 4 and felt it could end up being “the best and most expansive Pikmin game to date”:
Jonathan Estis: “In terms of single player content, I played maybe a day and a half in the game, and that time absolutely flew by. I enjoyed myself, admiring the beautiful environment, exploring every nook and cranny, and learning what Oatchi could do . There’s a lot more that I didn’t get to experience, including night missions, more abilities, environments, and story content. I can’t wait to get back into this world and explore every bit of it the game has to offer. Based on the time I’ve spent with it, this could end up being the best and most expansive Pikmin game yet.”
And last but not least, GameSpot
Steve Watts: “Nintendo built a reputation for the kind of accessible entertainment that would allow a kid to pick up a controller and learn everything within minutes — in fact, many millions of kids by now. In the case of Pikmin 4, the fourth entry in a relatively niche franchise (according to (Nintendo standards) that combines strategy and puzzle elements, the company seems particularly keen to prove that it’s an entry point for new fans. This was made clear during the presentation at a recent hands-on demo, and more importantly, it’s woven into the game itself.”
If all of these first impressions made you want to get your own gardening gloves on Pikmin 4, no need to worry because Nintendo will actually be releasing game demos on June 28th. Nintendo also re-released Pikmin 1 + 2 on the Switch eShop. There is also physical release.
