Nintendo gave N64 fans quite a surprise this week, announcing that Rare’s 3D platformer Banjo-Tooie will be joining the Expansion Pack service next week on October 25, 2024.
As part of this announcement, Rare (now known for titles like Sea of thieves) took to social media to express his own excitement about fans having access to this classic in “another modern way.” Here’s what the UK-based studio had to say:
“Banjo-Tooie! On Nintendo Switch for members #NintendoSwitchOnline + Expansion! NEXT WEEK! Exciting to see this one available in another modern way (with @XboxGamePass and Rare Replay), just so we can watch tons of new players work their way into at Grunty Industries.”
As noted, this title is already available through Xbox Game Pass and in the Rare Replay collection. The trailer for the Switch Online version also mentions that the N64 edition is “now in wide format”.
Steven Mayles, “father of Banjo and Kazooie”, also wished everyone “good luck” going through Grunty Industries:
Some other rare titles previously added to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack N64 library include Blast Corps, the original Banjo-Kazooie and GoldenEye 007. Some of his other retro series such as Donkey Kong Country and Battletoads have also been added to the service.
