Publisher Eastasiasoft, in collaboration with Gamera Games and developer Softstar Entertainment, has announced the upcoming release of Xuan-Yuan Sword: Mists Beyond the Mountains. The classic turn-based RPG is set to launch on PC via Steam on July 26, with a Switch release planned for later in 2023. Xuan-Yuan Sword: Mists Beyond the Mountains takes players on an epic journey as Septem, a Frankish knight tasked by Pepin III to seek the Invincible Art of War. Beginning in the picturesque canals of Venice, Septem’s quest will lead him through the Middle East and Western regions, before finally heading to the mystical East. Along the way, he becomes entangled in power struggles among local factions and the ambitious plans of the dark lord, Satan.
The game offers a stunning fusion of Western and Eastern cultures, spanning Eurasia and featuring regions as diverse as the Arab world, France, and China. From the stunning canals of Venice to the majestic city of Chang’an, players will encounter different architectural styles, clothing, cuisine and customs, immersing them in a rich cultural tapestry. Xuan-Yuan Sword: Mists Beyond the Mountains seamlessly blends history with fantasy, covering notable events such as the Battle of Talas, the Arab Civil War, and the An Lushan Rebellion. Through compelling character dramas, the game interweaves Chinese and Western mythology. Players will face historical enemies such as Merovingian soldiers, the Venetian navy, the Abbasid Caliphate, and Tang soldiers, while also encountering mythical creatures such as centaurs, Medusa, the Black and White Reaper, and Xuannü of the Nine Heavens.
