As we have been able to learn, the video below allows us to know that the first installment of Yoshi’s Island could have been very different from how we know it now. During its development, there was a phase called “Wizard baby” where the protagonist was not Baby Mario, but a new character who was precisely a baby wizard.
That was ruled out and Baby Mario was the protagonist. You can see him below:
