The Nintendo switchch looks to be off to a good start in China with almost 50,000 sales on launch day last month, but this new Tencent-distributed version has a few limitations compared to the standard switch that is already on the market worldwide. .
We have already seen that Chinese Switch owners face a different eShop for their digital purchases, but virtual games will work differently. Daniel Ahmad, Senior Analyst at Niko Partners, has share stories those cartridges made for the Tencent Nintendo switch will not work on consoles from other parts of the world.
As you may know, European switch owners currently can host physical games from the United States, Asia, or pretty much anywhere, but this rule will not apply to games published by the Tencent model.
Now, this shouldn't be too bothersome – maybe you don't have to buy the Chinese version New Super Mario Bros. You are Deluxe when it launches physically next week – but it can create some sad issues on the ground. Rabbits: Adventure Party, for example – the theme of the party that looks currently used only for China – will not be played unless you have a Tencent switch. Well, unless you email an Ubisoft manager, apparently.
Surprisingly, Ahmed points out that Chinese users can still import Global Global games and use them with their Tencent Nintendo switch. Online services will not be available in foreign games, however.
