When The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom was first revealed, there was a lot of speculation about the new overworld and how it could be connected with the map in the previous entries. Now, just a week after the last entry was published, this has seemingly been confirmed.
As Zelda enthusiasts have pointed out on social media and elsewhere online, it appears that the new adventure actually has something to do with the Super Nintendo classic A Link to the Past. This doesn’t look like a coincidence either, with many landmarks visibly lining up with the older game’s map.
Some theories (as you can see in the community post below) also suggest that the Gorons, Gerudo, Zora, and Deku could have lived in this same world, but were simply not available in the Link to the Past.
IGN apparently called upon his in-house Zelda expert and reviewer Tom Marks – confirming that various landmarks like “the graveyard and the church” were also in the right places, and the house Link lived in in A Link to the Past is there, even though he resides in the village of Suthorn in the most recent entry from top to bottom.
There are various other similarities between the two games, seemingly confirming the connection. These connections seem to fuel speculation about Zelda’s timeline and how it fits into A Link to the Past and A Link Between Worlds.
