In the Great Plateau, four chasms align exactly with where the Ancient Shrines used to be in BOTW.These chasms are connected by a quest that offers rewards similar to those of the shrines in this The Legend of Zelda game.
More than a year after the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Players discovered a connection to its predecessor, Breath of the Wild, which should have been obvious. Since TOTK is a direct sequel to BOTW, the parallels between the two games are numerous, especially since much of TOTK’s map is a replica of BOTW’s Hyrule. One of these similarities on the Great Plateau was hidden in plain sight, going unnoticed by many fans for over a year.

Reddit user Elite4501 noted that in Tears of the Kingdom, the Great Plateau tThere are four chasms leading to the Depths, each aligned with the locations of the Ancient Shrines in Breath of the Wild.. Several comments reflected players’ surprise at not having noticed this connection before, pointing out that this is an almost unique trait in the world of TOTK, at least as far as BOTW’s Ancient Shrines are concerned.
Users Mr_Noh and BackgroundNPC1213 commented that the TOTK chasms aligned with the locations where the Ancient Shrines were located in BOTW They are quite rare. Aside from the four on the Great Plateau, only a few other abysses, such as the one on Tingel Island, the one west of the Hyrule Castle Moat, the one in Lake Hylia, and those in the TOTK labyrinths, opened beneath where the Ancient Shrines once stood.

The Great Plateau chasms of TOTK are directly linked to a side quest
Even though the Great Plateau Shrines have been replaced by Chasms (and BOTW’s Ancient Shrines have been replaced by TOTK’s 152 Shrines of Light overall), they are connected to a quest that effectively makes them function as Shrines still. The quest “A Call from the Deep” involves Link returning four missing stone eyeslocated directly beneath the ruined Temple of Time on the Great Plateau. Upon completing this quest, the Statue of the Negotiator grants Link a Heart Container or a Vessel of Stamina, equivalent to completing four shrines.
It’s interesting that these four chasms are all directly connected to BOTW’s shrines, but ultimately unsurprising given the importance of the Ancient Shrines of the Great Plateau. The Great Plateau served as a tutorial area in BOTW,
Tears of the Kingdom’s world design demonstrates that while the parallels to BOTW are obvious, some details have long gone unnoticed by die-hard fans. The parallels between the surface and the depths were quickly noticed upon launch, but the reuse of these chasms has been relatively ignored. Since the chasms offer rewards equivalent to four shrines, they are virtually the only shrines that remain intact between Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
