Expert note
Our verdict
Jason Statham's latest film left me with a ear to ear, and not for the right reasons. A worker is aware of his ridiculous … at a point. If you don't like hilarious films, it's not for you.
Best price today
Jason Statham enters a room and shakes the hand of an average drug trafficker who is sitting on a throne in motorcycle parts and a metal skull. The dealer looks at their palms joined and exclaims: “Look at these bricks. You are not a cop, you are a man who works.”
It is this kind of nuanced dialogue that prepares the field for this really, really appalling action film. And yet, I can't help but think of Maximus in Gladiator when he blows “Are you not entertained?”, Because … I was.
I laughed hysterically through most of a worker. I do not know if it was the intention of director David Ayer, but it was my truth. I recently laughed at PROWER for having taken liberties with his story, and after seeing this, I would like to send official apology to Amazon because madness cannot even compare.
Minor spoilers for a worker below
So what is this new film? Statham embodies Levon Cade, a name that I had to look up because it was barely referenced. But like many things in this film, it doesn't matter. All you need to know is that he is a former soldier who has become a construction worker, and he is on a mission to eliminate traffickers from human beings.
“I can't believe they fled to make a film like that!” – Anonymous friend of criticism
The story begins during a normal working day when two hired henchmen arise and threaten one of the manufacturers. When Statham intervenes, the couple threatens it. Large error. He picks up a screw bucket and throws them on the attackers, who are also directly on the camera lens. As soon as I saw this shot, I knew what I was and I couldn't wait.
The engine of Statham's quest is to save the daughter of his boss, Jenny Garcia (Arianna Rivas). The pair shares the shortest moment of connection discussed the army and as a father himself, Statham knows the importance of the family.
And Smith / Warner Bros.
Not even 24 hours after Garcia is kidnapped, we see two police officers on site. When Statham goes to see the parents, they are already trying to push him thousands of dollars in cash to take this mission in hand. We haven't even seen them talking to the police yet – they haven't even tried!
All I can suppose is that in this universe, most of the Chicago police services are on annual leave, and those who remain incompetent. There are many acts of high -level violence in a worker, including two men killed by a hunting rifle in a block of apartments and a van that plunges into a river. But did one of them lead someone to call the cops? Of course not.
But I will tell you who is always on the scene – the Russian mafia. Yes. The most stereotypical bad guys in Hollywood that you and I could not be made today.
And they don't try to mix. The second -level henchmen in this film bear tracks of creating creators from head to toe with bucket hats – one in red and one in blue, so you can remember which one is. Again, that doesn't matter.
“The best film I have ever seen, hands down.” – Guy sarcastics of Row opposite
The big boss of the Russian mafia (or “fraternity” as he has been referenced several times, but I still cannot tell you why) puts on a coat fitted with fur and walks in the devil monologue. His name is Wolo Kolisnyk, and he is played by Jason Flemyng.
Later, we discover that there is an even larger boss above him. I retained my breath, ready to see who it could be … only to discover that it was another Russian man – Symon Kharchenko – with a black coat, a hat and a cane, played by Andrej Kaminsky.
But you can be assured that none of these bad guys at twirling at the mustache does not threaten Statham, which passes unscathed from the apparently impossible situations. During a sequence, he drives a motorcycle while at least three people draw machine guns on the vans. Fortunately, our hero has a solid conspiracy armor that holds him out of wandering bullets.
I cannot discuss with the fact that there are a lot of Kickass action sequences in this film – the tubes are almost deafening and that violence is delivered en masse. But every detail around these pieces is a reflection afterwards.
And Smith / Warner Bros.
In a scene, Statham apparently beats each man in pulp in the throne room. Or at least, I thought he had done it. After having a conversation with the Dutch dealership (Chidi Ajufo), he turns around, and everyone with whom he just was just … standing, completely cool. I saw several people throw my hands in the air with disbelief during this moment.
This scenario is by David Ayer and Sylvester Stallone, and I am ready to bet that no woman was involved during the writing process. There are several cases where a bad guy will sit on something important, while his wife / girlfriend tries to draw his attention. To say that it is bad, the male character will give him a big slap, then we hear nothing of this woman.
There are female characters with a little more substance, but the actresses unfortunately cannot save the material given to them. Jenny Garcia has just enough to fuck her so that she checks the box of what a film producer considers gradual, while the villain Artemis (Eve Mauro) spends most of the second half of the film effing and blinding, so we know that it is difficult and not much else.
“Why … why?” – The disbelief man was seated next to the author
The score of a worker is also … a choice. Each scene has stereotypical music on the nose which seems completely unjustified. The opening on the construction site presents surrounded strings designed to amplify the motto of Statham's teamwork, while a scene in a living room is supported by a number of contemporary countries clicking on the fingers.
My questions about this film are endless. Why is the edition so jerk? Who were all these people in an evil casino? Has David Harbor really added something to this film as a blind man from Statham? Why was the moon so large during the forest prosecution scenes? Say it with me, friends: that. Doesn't. Matter!
What I will give to Warner Bros. And MGM Credit for, it is that they seem to be aware of what this film is. During the projection, all staff members were dressed in high vision jackets, while the social media team created a LinkedIn profile for Statham in support of this new version.
No, a worker is really not a good film. But it doesn't have to be.

Should you look at a worker?
My sister asked if she would like this film when I sent her a message about my reaction, and honestly … I had to say yes. Because I know she will have a good time.
There is a crowd there for that – and it is not only the statham films that appreciated the beekeeper. My friend and I were in stitches while the credits of a worker rolled, and none of us saw him as a spoiled night.
On my honor as a professional critic, I cannot in all conscience give him a decent note because of his story of trash can, his distracted score and his bad stereotypes offensively. But if you want a comedy (I don't do it think It was intentional) with an insane action launched, so be my guest.
A worker is now in cinemas. If you are in the United Kingdom, you can get cineworld, view and Odeon tickets. People in America can get them from AMC Theatres, Fandango and Atom tickets.
