Any PC ecosystem it needs quite a few sockets to work, since we will have to plug in not only the PC itself, but also the monitors, speakers, router, etc. For this reason, the use of a power strip is necessary, but there are times when you increase the amount needed and either have to buy a second one. power strip to splice to the first one, or choose to buy a new one with more corks… which of the two options would be the most advisable?
Of course, when you increase the number of devices you have on your desk and need more outlets, the easiest thing and what more people do is buy a new power strip and plug it in in series the first time. However, and although usually nothing happens to do so, it is perhaps not the most recommended.
You can splice multiple strips but…
Let’s be clear from the start: nothing happens to connect two power strips in series (that is, you plug the first into the wall socket and the second into the first), as long as the two power strips (especially the first) are of good quality and, if possible, with protections against overvoltages and, above all, against overloads.
Why are we telling you this? Because all power strips have a power limit that they are able to withstand, a power which is generally quite high and which is sufficient for a PC and all its peripherals, but when you connect several power strips in series, it is normal that the ‘one with free sockets is the last in the chain, and it wouldn’t be uncommon to plug in a vacuum cleaner, air conditioner or other high-drain device, and that’s where problems could arise, especially if the power strips don’t work. have no overload protection.
For this reason, the first recommendation that we are going to give you is that although nothing usually happens and you can do it without too much danger, be very careful with the “Chinese rulers”, these white people like the one in the image above. they are found everywhere and that they are of very poor quality. Protect your beloved PC and the rest of the devices well by investing in quality power strips, whether it’s a large one with many outlets or several small power strips…at least the good ones.
The best is a power strip with many sockets
Of course, and if you want to take care of yourself in health to avoid possible problems, the best thing is to buy a power strip that has many sockets to be able to connect everything you need, including the vacuum cleaner, because as a rule Generally these electrical outlet strips carry a lot of power and have overload protection. It’s something you won’t notice as an immediate improvement (except maybe for space and cable organization), but you’ll appreciate it in the long run for the lack of issues… and it’s is that until you have a real problem you don’t realize it and don’t regret investing in a good power strip from the start.
And while we’re at it, if you want our opinion on which model to buy, we can only recommend the APC one (it’s a Schneider brand, one of the best there is), since I personally use it for over 15 years and I’ve never had a single problem or run out of outlets to plug my devices into.
