Agatha All Along has made its mark and sparked a social media frenzy similar to that of WandaVision in 2021. But this time, the discussions revolve around the mysterious identity of Joe Locke’s character, Teen.
The sixteen-year-old is under a dark spell that means his lips are sealed – literally – whenever he tries to say his name or reveal more about his past.
Fans speculate that this Agatha fan who is passionate about dark magic (and is happy to be called her “pet” or “Toto” for now) will have a bigger role to play not only in this series but in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole. After all, only a powerful witch could c ast such a spell.
Episode three only added to this speculation, as Teen began asking more questions about Agatha’s missing son, who the witches believe she wouldn’t recognize “even if he showed up at her door” – as Teen did.
As the weeks go by and a new episode airs, speculations continue to grow. With all that in mind, here are the most popular theories about Teen’s true identity in Agatha All Along.
Nicolas Scratch
Marvel / Disney 2024
The first suspicion was that Teen was Agatha’s long-lost son Nicky, aka Nicholas Scratch. Eagle-eyed viewers will have spotted the glimpse of Agatha’s son’s bedroom in the first episode, which revealed his name and introduced the idea of this comic book character making an appearance in this series.
In the comics, Nicholas became the leader of the New Salem community in Colorado and eventually became a supervillain battling the Fantastic Four and betraying his own mother.
In ep isode 3, Teen becomes curious about this mysterious figure and asks Jen for more information about the son, who she believes could be dead, a “demon” or an “agent of Mephisto”. It is unclear whether Teen was asking this question out of fascination with Agatha, or out of personal interest in whether any of the clan suspects him, or what they know about Nicky.
If you were around during the WandaVision era, there was a lot of speculation that Mephisto was involved in creating Wanda’s spell. Could this be another bluff? Or are we finally about to meet an evil follower of the ruler of Hell?
Billy Maximoff
Disney+ / Marvel
The most popular theory among fans is that Locke is playing an older version of Billy Maximoff, Wanda’s son, who we see in WandaVision as a ten-year-old boy.
There are many clues that suggest this is the teenager’s true identity, such as his obsession with dark magic and his need to travel the Witches’ Road, which offers everyone a reward. It could be to free his mother, Wanda, who Agatha already hinted may not be dead when she said “You never know” in Episode 1, while she was still a prisoner of her detective illusion.
Other smaller clues include being surrounded by a blue hue during the series, similar to Billy in WandaVision, and the sigma shape on the teen’s lips, as the black dots appear to form a “W” or “M.” This could suggest that the powerful witch who cast the spell was his mother, Wanda Maximoff.
The timeline doesn’t match WandaVision’s. Agatha All Along takes place three years later, so Billy would be 13 rather than 16. However, he could be a copy of Wanda and Vision’s son.
In the comics, Billy Kaplin, aka Wiccan, had the power to rewrite the rules of magic and was an extremely powerful sorcerer in his own right, a member of the Young Avengers. Only time will tell what this teenager’s true identity is… and with magic involved, anything could happen.
