When everything looked like architecture ARNDR4 was upon us in AMD APUs, everything seems to indicate that we are going to have to wait longer than necessary, since this manufacturer will continue to use RDNA3+ at least until 2027. According to various sources, the reason for the delay is due to the alliance which it concluded with Samsung for the development of the Exynos processor range.
As this partnership affected the company’s plans to update its architecture, AMD was forced to continue using RDNA3+ in the upcoming Strix Point APUs, scheduled to launch in the third quarter of 2024.
RDNA3+ arrived in 2027
RDNA3+ is a slight optimization of the RDNA3 architecture currently found in the Ryzen 7040, 8040 APUs for laptops and PCs mainly and in the Raden RX 7000 range graphics cards.
As usual, AMD has not revealed the specifications of this architecture but expects it to have 16 compute units per chip and up to 40 compute units. According to this latest leak, AMD will use the RDNA3+ architecture between 2024 and 2027, extending the use of the same architecture for 4 years. It seems that for AMD it has become a habit that many users will not like, at least those who need an APU including a CPU and a GPU.
RDNA3+ also on consoles
