Are you going to buy a graphics card? Wait and see this first!

buy, card, graphics, wait

We see different information coming, mainly, from NVIDIA and the reduction in the price of graphics cards. The whole thing is whether the price of graphics cards is really falling. We watched the NVIDIA RTX 3080 and RTX 3060as well as in the AMD RX 6900 XT and RX 6700 XT with various assemblers to see if their price drops.

That they drop in price is not something so strange, since they have become absurdly priced. What matters in this case is how the price has moved so far. We were surprised that in most cases the price was halved or even less.

They have dropped in price, but by how much?

To make the price comparison we based ourselves on three assemblers. We have chosen the personalized models of Gigabyte, ASUS and Zotac of the NVIDIA RTX 3080 and RTX 3060. Re AMD RX 6900 XT and RX 6700 XT we noticed PowerColor, Gigabyte and ASUS. Note that Zotac only assembles NVIDIA graphics and PowerColor only produces AMD graphics.

We would like to point out that we wanted to compare NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards that have been in the market for a long time. We didn’t look at the power, but we looked for them to be more or less in the same range or at more or less comparable prices. To view price history, we used CamelCamelCamel.

Let’s start with graphics cards RTX-3080who have reduced between 40 and 45% relative to the highest historical price. The Gigabyte graphics stand out, which cut its price by almost half. Re RTX-3060we see that the difference is between 70-85% off price of its all-time high. In the case of Gigabyte, we see that the price has dropped enormously.

Maximum price Minimal price Current price Difference between the maximum price and the current price
ASUS TUF Gaming RTX 3080 V2 OC Edition 1320 dollars 899 dollars 899 dollars – 46.8%
Zotac RTX 3080 Trinity OC 1417 dollars 880 dollars 1015 dollars – 39.6%

Gigabyte RTX 3060 Gaming OC 1440 dollars 420 dollars 460 dollars – 213%

Now let’s see what happened with AMD graphics cards. The first is the RX 6900 XTwhich cost less than half that a few months ago. Here, the price difference in Gigabyte graphics is striking, just under 45%. Now we see the RX 6700 XTwho had an additional cost of between a 60-65%but in the case of the Gigabyte model, the additional cost was 35%, almost half that of other manufacturers.

quite interesting facts

We clearly see that graphics card prices have come down a lot from their all-time high. Although some data have caught our attention in this regard.

The first thing that draws attention is that in the case of NVIDIA graphicsThe models from Gigabyte were much more expensive than those of the competition. pass just what opposite in the case of amd graphics cards, which have always been cheaper than the competition. A rather strange fact of which we do not know why it is due.

It is also striking that the RTX 3080 from ASUS and Zotac has always been cheaper than the RTX 6900 XT. Then we see that the price difference between the RTX 3060 and the RX 6700 XT has been quite similar.

Something that catches our attention is that for months NVIDIA has been under attack over its graphics used for Ethereum mining. What we see is that the RTX 3080s, which are very good in terms of power/price, have not suffered as much inflation as the RX 6900 XTs. This is at least a curious fact.

In summary, the price of graphics cards has normalized quite a bit in recent months. We may see a little more price drop after the NVIDIA RTX 40 series and AMD RX 7000 series launch, who knows.
