Innovation is not easy, especially in the technology and information technology segment. Creating something new doesn’t have to be a guarantee of success, in fact, it’s normal for it to crash eventually. We are going to review some of those bets that would revolutionize the world such as NVIDIA 3D Vision, FireWire or large format monitors, among others.
It is not necessary to go far to talk about technologies that seemed to be. Some, if we are realistic, when they were presented, it was already clear that they were not. Well, most of them indicated failure, so go for hot rags.
They seemed like good ideas, but in the end, no.
Some of the technologies on the list still exist, but their presence is so low that they can be ruled out. Others went unnoticed and others made a lot of noise, but they dissolved like sugar.
NVIDIA 3D Vision
This technology was launched in 2009 and ended in huge failure. This technology let you enjoy 3D games, providing a new gaming experience. Really, it was a dead technology from the beginning, because it was very expensive. Special glasses were needed which cost around 150 dollars and a special monitor which cost around 500 dollars. Come on, just in these two elements you were preparing almost 700 dollars, apart from the graphics card, which was worth nothing.
There was a little initial buzz, but few cared. ASUS and a few others have released monitors compatible with this new technology. The games catalog was extremely small, which also contributed to its death. I must say that I tried this technology, it was very cool, but not enough to pay 700 dollars.
Puerto FireWire
It was presented as the evolution of the USB port, which would end with this connector. It offered higher transfer speeds, but a year (more or less) after its launch, the USB 3.0 standard was introduced, which exceeded it. I also haven’t had much support in the industry, releasing some products, but in a rather lukewarm way. He ended up being relegated to professional photography, until his demise.
Google Glass augmented reality glasses
The ideas that the company launches are sometimes a little bizarre. Google is a company expert in creating often absurd and doomed projects, like Google+. One of his great creations which was to revolutionize everything and which came to absolutely nothing. They integrated a camera, a screen in the glasses and other extras in true Minority Report style.
ASUS GX700 Laptop
This laptop is one of the biggest outliers I’ve ever seen and thankfully it hasn’t proliferated. What was wrong with this laptop? Well, there was a removable external liquid cooling system. It generated quite a bit of heat, so an external element was created, a huge bulge. Undoubtedly, the funny thing is that ASUS sold it to you in a gift carrying case. A whole madness which, fortunately, did not go to the majors.
Large format or BFGD monitors
They’re still on the market and still available, but they’re surreal clear. These BFGD monitors are powered or supported by NVIDIA. They are characterized by having a TV size of 50 inches or more, but with a gaming monitor panel. They usually have advanced image quality technologies, in addition to having to include NVIDIA G-Sync Ultimate. The big problem is mainly in the price, which usually costs several thousand dollars, unaffordable for the average user.
virtual reality
It’s still too early to enter the list, but it hasn’t finished taking off. Virtual reality glasses are quite expensive and, in addition, high-end hardware is required. The catalog of games is also not the most attractive in the world since, in most cases, they are “playable films”. It won’t go away in the short to medium term, but it hasn’t quite taken off either.
