At the time of comprar all the components that form part of our new PC, we have to keep in stock, in addition to our current requirements, the possible updates to the future without our obligados to replace the base plate which, in the end, is where you go to do it our team.

The manufacturer ASUS has just published a firmware update for its motherboards with the AM5 socket adding support for AMD AGESA 1.1.0.1 and confirming the commitment of this manufacturer for accelerated processing units comprising a CPU and a GPU on the same chip, called APUs, which will hit the market with the AMD Ryzen 8000G Phoenix and Phoenix 2 processors.

The new ASUS motherboard firmware version, ComboAM5PI 1.1.01, is available for motherboards equipped with the AMD B650/E and X670/E chipset and is available for the entire product line from ROG models to ProArt , through ROG Strix and TUF Gaming, however, the Prime range is not one of the lucky ones. If we own one of these cards, if we plan to upgrade to Ryzen 8000G, it will not be necessary to replace itAll you need to do is update the card firmware.

This new firmware focuses on AMD’s Ryzen 8000G APU processors, so if our equipment is managed by the Ryzen 7000 Raphael line and we do not plan to update to the new processor since the SMU has not received any news Regarding the ComboAMP5PI 1.0.8.0 version, it is not necessary to update the firmware, although at HardZone we always recommend it.

This new ASUS firmware version is in beta stage, it is not a final version, so it is not recommended to update our motherboard until the final version is released, if we do not want to encounter problems with our equipment.

The bone AMD APU processors, offer a series of advantages such as the saving of not having to purchase a dedicated graphics card when integrating it and together offering great performance and highly optimized consumption. However, they also have a series of disadvantages such as lower frequency and range of models available on the market. If we’re looking for an APU for our next computer, the Ryzen 800G is one of the best deals we’ll find on the market when it launches in early 2024.

How to update the firmware of an ASUS motherboard

The first thing we need to know is the model number of our card in order to download the corresponding firmware version. We can find this information in the BIOS itself or using the DXDiag application available in Windows. The model number can be found in the section System model.

DXDiag app in System tab

The card manufacturer ASUS offers different methods for updating the firmware of its products: via BIOS with an Internet connection, this is the fastest and simplest method, from the Windows operating system or via USB, although the latter option is not available for all models.

To carry out this process using a USB stick, we must first download the latest version available for our model via this link. Next, we unzip the .zip file and copy it to a USB drive. The file that includes the new firmware has a .CAP extension.

Next, we connect the USB to the computer, start the PC and enter the BIOS by pressing the Delete key. Next, click Advanced Template.

In this menu, click ASUS AZ Flash 3 Utility > via one or more storage deviceswe select the USB port where the firmware is located and double-click on the .CAB file that contains the new version.

If we want to update the BIOS via the Internet, by clicking on ASUS AZ Flash 3 Utility, instead of selecting via storage device(s), we select by Internet.
