Graphics cards are a type of component that consumes a large amount of energy, which gives them impressive performance and power, but they have a big problem, the temperatures they can reach. This is one of the reasons why few companies try to manufacture models with a refrigeration passive, but now we can see two new ones chart which have an innovative design of this type and are part of the RX 7900.
There are a large number of solutions for computers that seek to eliminate active cooling, but the ones that are practically impossible to see (and even less with excellent performance) are the latest generation graphics cards. But now, ASRock has presented a series of video cards that have something new to present, namely that they have a passive design that takes advantage of current cooling technologies used by many laptops to avoid including large fans.
A powerful graphics card, now fanless
One of the biggest problems we currently face when looking for a high-performance configuration is the temperatures that components can reach, which makes it very difficult to obtain a complete system without active cooling. Despite this, some companies are looking for a way to completely eliminate the need to implement fans in some of their components, but until now we have not seen one of these solutions in a graphics card.
There are models that even offer liquid cooling (which is obviously linked to a radiator with several fans), but this new implementation guarantees the elimination of visible fans, since it uses a vapor chamber system to reduce the temperatures it can reach. This system, as we well know, is a solution used in portable devices, but now it also reaches one of the highest power components that AMD currently offers.
From the hand of ASRock we have the two new ones chart that the brand presents with passive cooling, and don’t think that these are two underperforming models, since they are the two most powerful versions currently offered AMD. We are talking about the Radeon RX 7900, in its XT and XTX variants, that is, in configurations with high clock speeds and which integrate 20 and 24 GB of VRAM respectively.
These passive graphics have impressive power
Going into technical details, these two models are, as we have indicated, the Radeon RX 7900 XT 20GB and the Radeon RX 7900 from AMD. Although they have very similar names, they should not be confused, as they have very different specifications, since the XTX version uses a larger memory bus as well as other higher specifications.
Radeon RX 7900 XT
- 20GB of GDDR6 on a 320-bit memory bus
- 84 AMD RDNA 3 Compute Units (with RT+AI accelerators)
- 80MB AMD Infinity Cache Technology
- 12V-2×6 power connector
Radeon RX 7900 XTX
- 24GB GDDR6 on 384-bit memory bus
- 96 AMD RDNA 3 Compute Units (with RT+AI accelerators)
- 96MB AMD Infinity Cache Technology
- 12V-2×6 power connector
Without knowing the launch details and the price they will have, we can see that it is a series of very innovative models for two of the best graphics cards that can be found on the market, which will allow users to obtain a completely different configuration from those that can be found in other graphics cards (and surely cheaper than other 20 GB and 24 GB models).
