What China It’s no secret that it is a global economic superpower, but that doesn’t mean it holds supremacy in every market. The proof is the hardware industry, where they are still far behind major competitors like Intel, NVIDIA or AMD. However, the Chinese manufacturer Zhaoxin has just announced the launch of its new generation of processorwith an x86 architecture and with which it seeks to compete, precisely, with AMD and Intel at least.
No matter how powerful China’s economy is, it cannot perform miracles, at least not in terms of research and development. The conclusive proof of this is its main processor manufacturer, Zhaoxin, which is literally years behind in the development of its new generation of processors with which it promised the Chinese government to compete on equal terms with Intel and AMD. This new generation of processors has finally arrived, but apparently they still have a long way to go to deliver on their promises…
Zhaoxin KX-7000, the processors that China boasts of
As we said, there were years of delays, but Chinese consumer processors were finally released to the market, based on the x86-64 ISA license. According to the manufacturer, these 8-core processors offer twice the performance of the previous generation, with architectural improvements and up to 4 times more cache memory, although it is true that even with this data in hand, they are still far behind in terms of performance if we compare them with the processors that Intel and AMD currently have on the market.
Of course, even if in terms of performance they are still below, they can boast of something, which is that they have matched Intel and AMD in terms of the use of technologies: these Chinese processors are compatible with RAM DDR5, PCIe 4.0 and USB4.
It’s curious that we always talk about how the United States and Europe are trying to gain independence from Asia in terms of semiconductor manufacturing, but they remain the kings in terms of design and at this respect, it is China which seeks not to have to do so. depend on external companies (such as Intel, AMD and NVIDIA) to have the latest technologies. The proof of all this is that Zhaoxin’s KX-7000s are made with a 16nm lithography
Continuing with the specifications of these Chinese processors, we see that they have 24 PCIe 4.0 lanes, a set of 32 MB L3 cache and 4 MB L2 cache and a boost speed of up to 3 .7 GHz (remember they are 16nm, so (these numbers are pretty good considering that). These CPUs are also compatible with VT-x, BT-d 2.4, SSE4.2 instructions /AVX/AVX2, using of course the same license which allows them to use the x86-64 architecture which, remember, belongs to Intel and AMD.
The good news is that with these processors Chinese users will be able to use the same operating systems and programs used in the rest of the world, which can be a big step forward considering the restrictions they have in the country Asian. . We’ll see how it all turns out, but this Chinese processor is something they certainly haven’t been shy about bragging about.
