If we perform a task repetitively throughout the day, the best way to optimize time is to adopt a keyboard shortcut, a keyboard shortcut that we can also associate with one of the side buttons of the mouse to perform this function much faster. faster and easier. Whether the manufacturer of our mouse is a well-known brand and includes an application to customize its operation or if the mouse comes from a manufacturer that no one but us knows, we can use the X-Mouse Button application to customize the operation of the mouse buttons, regardless of its age.
Add special functions to mouse buttons
The first thing we need to do is download the X-Mouse Button application, a completely free application that we can download directly from the developer’s website and which is available through this link. In addition to the application, it is advisable to download the Spanish language pack here or by clicking on Language Packs.
This application allows us to customize the operation of the keys by applications. This way we can associate a button to perform a specific function in Word and another, completely different one, in Edge.
If we don’t want to complicate our lives, we can create a generic function that works the same in all applications. In the example configuration that we show you below, we will associate one of the buttons on the left side of the mouse so that it displays the browser search box and another for paste the contents of the clipboard
The first thing to do is to identify in the application which are the corresponding buttons. In the application, each button has a different numbering, so it is not possible to know which one corresponds to. To do this, simply click on the corresponding button to which you wish to associate the action so that it lights up orange.
Once the button has been identified, it is time to associate the action. To do this, simply click on the drop-down list located just to the right of it. To associate one of the buttons with the paste text from clipboard function, select the corresponding option Take.
