Do you collect old glories?
The fact is that we lived anchored in this new online reality and cloud and happy and glad you don’t have to use an optical drive with your computer, until you start rummaging through the trunk of old glories. The subscriber is a collector of video games, of all kinds, and of PCs too. Due to my professional background, I had to live the first decade of the 2000s at the head of a magazine specializing in computer games and I maintain a collection of classics which, taking advantage of the last long weekend in Madrid, has revealed itself among dust and cardboard.
In this discovery, I found myself face to face with a large number of games from this first decade of the 2000s with all the releases of FX Interactive and their Improvmfor example, but also adventures like Hollywood Monsters, dump, etc. The list of titles in DVD format was enormous and, to be honest, I must admit that I had a mad desire to try somewhich still didn’t need an internet connection to work: just install the game and get to work.
This moment was the first in many years where I REALLY missed having an optical drive in my computer, to pick up those games that I would otherwise have to repurchase to enjoy for a while. And yes, most of these can be purchased from some digital stores (those from companies like Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, the old LucasArts, etc.), but many more are no longer available, as is the case with the wonderful editions of FX Interactive, which were true works of art
Is there an alternative?
As I told you, the discovery of this large number of games on CDs and DVDs led me to wonder if there was a possibility of Install an optical drive in the PC. Looking at the tower I have now I found that it didn’t even have the option to install one so I had no choice but to look at some external models that work so well through USB 3.0.
As I say, having a DVD drive right now on your computer might seem like an anachronism because you won’t use it at all, but in cases like mine, I have a long collection of games in this format and, also, a lot backups old computers with photos, videos and documents to archive and order in the cloud, having a device with these characteristics at hand is practically a must.
So if you are in the same case, here I leave you the option that I have chosen to be able to use all this material that I keep at home. An external CD and DVD reader/writer that works with USB 3.0 and a Type-C connector that will come in handy so you don’t leave all that glorious old hardware behind. Now I’m a little calmer so I can continue to enjoy these wonders.
