For some time we have believed that the so-called entry range is in danger of disappearing, the reasons are mainly twofold. First, they are not attractive in terms of margins for manufacturers. Regarding the second point, its performance is worse than expected and it seems that after several years there has been no change. This is the case with the new GTX 1630, based on a scaled down version of the NVIDIA TU117 chip we’ve seen before in the GTX 1650. These chips are based on a version without RT Cores or Tensor Cores of the RTX 20, so they cannot increase their performance via DLSS. Although being honest, this is not the only problem that drags this graphics card, since its specifications fall short.
NVIDIA GTX 1630 performance disappoints
To us, it makes no sense that in mid-2022 NVIDIA would release a graphics card with performance no better than a GTX 1050 Ti from 2016. And that’s it the specs of the GTX 1630 are very poor in all its variants and it looks like NVIDIA has gone to war with Intel’s ARC 3 to see who’s playing the worst entry-level graphics card. We don’t think users deserve a graphics card with half the power of a GTX 1650 and more with AMD’s RX 6500 XT on the market.

And this assertion is not gratuitous on our part, the graphics card manufacturer INNO3D has made it clear. So what is the existence of this model? The explanation that we see there is simple and it is that AMD has not released, to everyone’s surprise, a Ryzen 6000G processor for socket AM4. If we had, we would have a processor with a more powerful graphics card than this GTX 1630 and then it would not have its place. The other reason is the low performance of the integrated GPUs in the Intel Core 12, which means graphics support is needed for some tasks. This in no way justifies launching a dedicated graphics card with such low performance.
After more than five years, which is an eternity in the graphics world, we thought we would at least see performance equal to the GTX 1060 for less than $200 and we don’t think our failed predictions were wrong in this who was known. I could logically expect in this price range after waiting so long.
