During the official presentation of the new line of Intel Core Ultra 200 processors for desktops, Intel took advantage of the event to show a preview of what the new line of Core Ultra 200H laptops for laptops will be, a new range that will not arrive on the market until the beginning of 2025.
Los Ultra 200V Core which are already on the market are focused on offering the maximum possible autonomy with a combination of 4 performance cores and 4 energy efficiency cores, so it is an entry range where performance is not the most important thing.
Intel Core Ultra 200H processors
If we talk about Ultra 200H corewe’re talking about the next step in performance. This range has 8 performance cores and 8 energy efficiency cores and focuses on portable equipment where performance and mobility are sought in equal measure.
Another difference between the V series and H series of Intel Core Ultra for laptops is in the graphics section. While the V series features an iGPU with 8 Xe2 cores, the Intel Core Ultra 200H series iGPU has 8 Xe XMX cores.
We must also talk about the NPU, the one responsible for carrying out Artificial Intelligence tasks. The NPU of the Intel Core Ultra 200V has a performance of 48 TOPS compared to the 13 of the Core 200H range and adding the performance of the CPU with 9 TOPS and the GPU with 77 TOPS, it makes a total of 99 TOPS.
This represents a problem for this range which Copilot+ certification from Microsoft is only available on computers with a dedicated NPU with performance of 45 TOPS or higher without considering the performance that the GPU can offer for AI tasks.
Remember that the NPU is a processing unit intended to perform data processing operations. neural networks independently, without taking into account the power that the graphics card and processor can offer.
The consumption of NPU execution of AI tasks is much lower than what can be achieved by combining CPU and GPU, which is why manufacturers are focusing their implementation on laptops and not desktops where, using a graphics card, better performance can be obtained in this type of tasks with higher consumption, but since it does not work with batteries this is a minor problem.
Regarding connectivity options, this range will include support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, Thunderbolt 5but not in all models.
Market availability
As we mentioned above, this new range of processors for laptops will be officially presented at the beginning of 2025, probably at CES which is held every year in Las Vegas and will be accompanied by the Intel Core Ultra 200HXa range of laptops designed to deliver the best performance with up to 24 performance cores.
At the same event, NVIDIA will also introduce the RTX 50 series for desktops. If it does not present the RTX 50 range for laptops, Intel’s new processors will hit the market with the current RTX 40.
