Dyson’s latest air purifier, the Big+Quiet, is now on sale in the UK. And it’s a bit of a departure for the brand.
The brand’s air handlers are among its most iconic products, with designs – including the brand’s bladeless loop fans – and prices that set them apart from their competitors.
Its most recent lineup included multifunctional air purifiers with formaldehyde detection and removal, including the Purifier Hot+Cool Formaldehyde and the Purifier Humidify + Cool Formaldehyde, both of which impressed us when we tested them.
Dyson kept the anti-formaldehyde technology but redesigned almost everything else about its new purifier.
What is Big+Quiet formladehyde?
The Big+Quiet is, exactly as its name suggests, a powerful air purifier designed to clean the air in large rooms – and, thanks to its built-in no ise reduction technology, to do it very quietly.
Where can you buy Big+Quiet formaldehyde?
Big+Quiet Formaldehyde is now available in the UK. You can buy it from Dyson. It’s already for sale on the Dyson website in the United States, in two colors.
How much does Big+Quiet Formaldehyde cost?
In the UK, Big+Quiet Formaldehyde is priced at £879.99.
In the United States, you can buy Big+Quiet Formaldehyde in Bright Nickel and Prussian Blue for $999.99. The Prussian Blue and Gold model costs $1,099.99.
What are the characteristics of Big+Quiet Formaldehyde?
The Big+Quiet was designed to purify the air in larger rooms, which are not typically served by standard air purifiers. But the problem this creates is that larger size and greater airflow means a lot more noise.
To combat unwanted sounds, Dyson engineers have integrated numerous noise reduction solutions into the purifier. For starters, the engine is mounted smoothly to reduce vibration.

There is also a uniquely designed labyrinth seal that forces the expelled air around a twisted channel to prevent it from building up too noisy a force.
Finally, an acoustic silencer is integrated into the purifier. This is a cavity inside the device designed to capture and dissipate low-frequency noise.
The Big+Quiet’s design has a lot more in common with the old Pure Cool Me than with any of Dyson’s bladeless loop fans. It is a large cylindrical device with a cupped section on top.
Its particular shape makes it possible to direct the condensed air jet which can be projected outwards over 10 meters. The airflow cannot be aimed in any direction but the user can choose from three angles: 0o25o or 50o.
It’s also worth keeping in mind that this is not a hybrid device that also heats, cools, or humidifies a room. It’s simply an air purifier. That being said, it does have a “breeze mode,” which creates a natural-looking breeze.
According to Dyson, this random flow of air is more cooling than a constant stream of air, so it can be used in the same way as a fan. And because this is Dyson, engineers spent three years collecting over 40 million data points to help create this mode. So it should be a little better than the boring “natural” mode of a standard fan.
Dyson
The Big+Quiet is Dyson’s first CO air purifier2 sensor. It also monitors and filters from the air the full range of particles and gases you’d expect, including formaldehyde.
In the MyDyson app, you will be able to monitor PM 2.5 and PM10 particle pollution, as well as gases in the air, temperature and humidity.
The machine has HEPA 13 filtration which will capture 99.95% of polluting particles down to 0.1 microns. The filter itself will last five years, which means less expense on replacement.
There is also a new K-Carbon filter to capture the NO2 (nitrogen dioxide, which can pollute the air in your home from nearby roads or even the kitchen). The formaldehyde filter is in a solid state, so it will not become less effective over time and will not need to be replaced. And because the machine is completely sealed, any air that passes through it will be cleaned.
