Carrefour is the company that started to mobilize the change of the dates of Black Friday in France. Finally, other big companies like Amazon have decided to join this initiative and change the most important sale date of the year.
Since October 30, all non-essential businesses in France have had to lower their blinds. These shutters will have to remain closed until December 1, when the current containment measures should be relaxed.
This means that the most important day of sale of the year, Black Friday which takes place on the last Friday of November, falls within the dates of this strict confinement that the French state is currently going through.
The closure of all stores has given Amazon more strength than ever: it has ended up becoming a giant without competition, since it positions itself as the only alternative to make purchases during the period of confinement.
In this way, some business federations have come together to ask the government for an official postponement of Black Friday until the stores reopen and thus compete fairly with the giant Amazon.
Although it did cost, Amazon France finally agreed to postpone its sale date for Black Friday as well.
When will Black Friday take place in France?
December 4, 2020 will be celebrated on Black Friday in France, when stores will be supposed to be able to reopen.
This means that we could continue to enjoy discounts for longer. It is advisable to check the offers of French online stores during Black Friday and check if they ship internationally (and if the shipping costs are worth it).
As we indicated above, companies like Amazon France or Carrefour France will celebrate Black Friday on December 4th.
However, if you are reading this from France, you should also take into account the #NavidadesSinAmazon initiative which aims to promote the sales of small businesses which are increasingly struggling with giants like Amazon or Carrefour.
Will Black Friday also be postponed in Europe?
No. Black Friday in Europe will continue to take place on the scheduled dates. Currently, several early sales for Black Friday are already appearing (see which stores are ahead of Black Friday), but the official sales day is November 27th. Also remember that on November 30 there will be more online sales thanks to Cyber Monday.
